Confidence comes in many different forms and can be expressed in just as many ways – but to express confidence through Vogue is something else entirely. This workshop will take you through the history of voguing and get you to find your confidence by trying out some Vogue Femme and European Runway.

 ✨Everything you need to know

They say confidence is key and we agree! Learning to project your best self out into the world is a skill LGBTQ+ people all over the world have used to thrive and survive for longer than any of us have been alive. As we all know however, this is easier said than done. That’s why we’re taking this glorious afternoon to draw out our confidence from within through Vogue.

No experience for this workshop required!

This workshop is going to be led by Gothenburg’s very own Demba Marciano – a fixture in our local Ballroom community. When we say Ballroom we mean the culture first developed by the Black and Latino LGBTQ+ community in New York City’s underground. Ballroom has many categories and performance styles but in this workshop we’re going to be honing in on 2 specific categories: Vogue Femme and European Runway.

Demba will be kicking off the workshop by talking about the history of Vogue right back to the 1960s. He’ll be exploring how Vogue was directly influenced by the fashion magazine of the same name and how the trans feminine community developed their own style of Vogue: Vogue Femme. Getting our bodies moving, Demba will lead us through the five elements of Vogue Femme: Hands, Catwalk, Duck Walk, Spins and Dips and Floor Performance.

He’ll also be teaching us a thing or two about European Runway – the art of strutting your stuff and showing off you’re fab femme confidence.

This is a dive into a whole other culture, and we know that can be a bit intimidating. So for those of you who want to come, we’re going to be sending out a lil’ glossary of Ballroom terms. That way, if you want to, you can get upto to speed on all the lingo before the workshop.

Demba Sabally is one of the Gothenburg leaders in the Voguing scene. He was born and raised in Gothenburg and started to take vogue classes in 2017. Since then he has walked balls in Paris, Oslo, Copenhagen and more. He goes by 007 in the main scene and Marciano in the Kiki scene. He mostly walks Butch Queen European Runway but he also walks Vogue femme.

Are you spending too many sleepless nights deciding whether you should spend your pocket money supporting the local LGBTQ+ community or pimping out your room with a fabulous piece of art? No? Well doesn’t it sound like a fucking great idea to do both anyway??

The point of this shop is to support queer and trans artists – that’s why we make sure all the profits go to the artists themselves.
